So you want to do the Moon Gem quest?

Or you are doing the quest but the length it and all the hoops you must jump through is making you wish for a better way?

This guide explains in depth how to avoid some of the common mistakes people make with this quest and shows a better way of doing the quest than what the Conquer site gives. This guide will be broken up into two different sections: Doing the quest once, and doing the quest multiple times. The two are very similar but with some noticeable differences.

Doing the quest once

Step 1: Obtaining a Python Heart

This part of the quest is the second most hardest part of the quest, for the fact it can only be done at a certain time which even for a west coast person like myself makes it difficult, having to search for Emily in Love Canyon, & there are lots of “guard” monsters protecting the python which you must kill. However this part of the quest also has its rewards. The guard monsters drop lots of gold and you can pull easily 100K from this.

Emily’s appearance will start at 11 pm pacific & will disappear at 1 am pacific time in one of the following coordinates:

(565,730) Halfway between AC and the portal to New Canyon
(455,460) Near the Heresy Leader NPC of the Heresy Snake man quest
(054,333) About as west as you can get on the ThunderApe part of the Love Canyon map
(600,500) A little northeast of AC or the most northern you can be on the Macaque part of the Love Canyon map without being in AC

There are 5 groups of monsters which must be killed at this part, their order is this.

1 group of “snake men”
1 group of “elf apes”
1 group of “snake men”
1 group of “elf apes”
1 group of “thunder apes”

It must be noted the range of the “elf apes” which are present in this map have an extended range which is somewhat comparable to the range of the club skill rage. Needless to say it is best if you have either an archer w/stamina fly, a Tao with an effective magic attack like fire or tornado, or a weapon with a skill which can deal damage at a long range. The Python will be at the top of the last group.

After you have obtained the Python Heart go back to AC and deposit the heart into the WH (warehouse) and purchase an AC scroll. Next let’s proceed to the Maple Forest and Step 2.

Step 2: Obtaining Balsamine

This is the easiest part of the quest. Go down to the above the bottom left corner of the Maple Forest map and kill the Lonely Tyrant (an easy kill), collect the Balsamine dropped & proceed to PC. Deposit the AC scroll you purchased in the PC WH & purchase 2 PC scrolls. Next proceed to Step 3 which takes us to BI.

Step 3: Depositing inventory

This is just to get things setup when we start doing the quest. Deposit in the BI WH 1 of the PC scrolls & the Balsamine you collected. With that done purchase a BI scroll & proceed to the Desert and to Step 4.

Step 4: Obtaining emeralds and an unidentified letter

Now we come to the fourth hardest part of the quest. First deposit the scroll you purchased in BI in the DC WH. Then purchase 1 DC Scroll & take the conductress to the Mystic Castle. This is done to reduce the travel time to where the monster you need to kill is at. From here start to hunt for a monster labeled as Ghost. These monsters look like Blade Ghosts but really aren’t. Ghosts do an up close magic damage which means even a flying archer will get hit. Don’t worry though the damage is not that much providing you have adequate magic protection. It should be noted killing a Ghost will not always produce an unidentified letter (or of the two parts about this section of the quest which makes it a pain).

After you have obtained an unidentified letter, use your DC scroll and deposit the unidentified letter in the DC WH. After this go down to where hill monsters are & kill enough of them to have 3 emeralds drop (the other part of this section which makes it a pain). Once you have 3 emeralds return to DC and deposit them into the WH. Withdraw from the WH the unidentified letter, purchase 2 more DC scrolls, & use the PC scroll you have to deposit the unidentified letter & 1 of the DC scrolls in the PC WH. More on why this is done later on.

Purchase one PC scroll and proceed to Step 5 and to any mine you want.

Step 5: Obtaining Brilliant Stone & 4 rate 3 or better gold ore

The third most frustrating part of this quest. Cause getting both brilliant stone & 4 rate 3 or better gold ore can be a slow and laborious process. I personally used either the Wind Plain mine the Maple Forest mine for this part. Recommend first obtaining the Brilliant Stone by killing rock monsters in the mines then using a pick axe or a hoe to mine for the ores. The pick axe can be obtained from the shopkeeper in Twin City for 1000 silver while the hoe can be obtained from the Warden in the PK jail for free. Note if you mine for houses and do this quest save the rate 3 gold ore or better you get while mining for a house to make this faster.

After both the gold ore and the Brilliant stone has been obtained first scroll to PC and deposit the Brilliant stone in the WH. Then use the other DC scroll to actually beginning the quest which is laid out on the Conquer web site. Proceed to Step 6 and starting the quest.

Step 6: Starting the quest

From here the guide on the website can be followed. Though it must be noted if you follow this guide the chance you will have to ever do that little consolation part of the quest and obtain 2000 silvers from Rachel is pretty remote. If you are confused by that part of the guide I recommend you just ignore it. For a link to that guide click here.

Follow the rest of the guide as it is shown on the Conquer website and talk to the NPC’s necessary to get the letters or items you require. It should be noted only the refined bone bracelet can be stored in a WH or traded, the letters and handkerchief cannot be stored in a WH or traded and will be lost if you drop them. However it also must be noted if you get PKed the non-tradable/non-storable items will drop and someone can collect them. I should know I was PKed when hunting for Brilliant Stone when I had a secret letter in my possession. The previous is the reason why this guide has you purchase scrolls and have everything stored before you begin the quest. So you can scroll to where you need to go and reduce the possibility of being PKed down to nil while doing the quest.

When you get to the part of identifying the unidentified letter there are two outcomes which will happen (this is the worst part of the quest).

If the identification reveals a fake letter purchase a PC scroll, use the DC scroll you have in your PC WH & obtain the other consolation prize of 40,000 from Tough Wei in the Desert. Then go through the process of collecting the necessary materials in this order: unidentified letter, Balsamine, 4 rate 3 gold ore, & 3 emeralds. Deposit these and the appropriate scrolls & in the various WH’s described earlier in this guide & start again.

If the identification reveals a secret letter proceed with the rest of the quest like normal. Grind the brilliant stone into glittering powder, use the glittering powder and the secret letter to reveal the moon letter, scroll to AC using the stored scroll, talk to the old general in AC, get the Aid Token, take the Python Heart out of the WH and talk to the Old General again and volla you have a refined moon gem. Congrats!

Doing the quest multiple times

If you are reading this part of the guide about the moon gem quest it must mean either you wish to make moon gems for money, or you wish to make a super moon gem for either spell/skill leveling, or to sell for money. The author did this quest 30 times to make two super moons for a fire Tao to make spell leveling easier.

As noted there was a guide earlier about doing this quest once. This guide is very similar but has a few exceptions. So let us begin.

Step 1: Obtaining Python Hearts

In the two hour period the author was able to pull 4 to 5 hearts a night. So for how many moon gems you want to make will determine how many nights you will need to use to gather enough Python Hearts to make the amount of moons you want.

After you have obtained your desired amount of Python hearts go back to AC and deposit them into the WH and purchase an AC scroll. Next proceed to the Maple Forest and step 2.

Step 2: Obtaining Balsamine

This is the easiest part of the quest. Go down to the above the bottom left corner of the Maple Forest map and kill the Lonely Tyrant (an easy kill), collect the Balsamine dropped & proceed to PC. For doing the quest multiple times I recommend killing this monster 3 times. Deposit the AC scroll you purchased in the PC WH & purchase 2 PC scrolls. Next proceed to Step 3 which takes us to BI.

Once you have 3 emeralds return to DC and deposit them into the WH. Withdraw from the WH the unidentified letters, purchase 2 more DC scrolls, & use the PC scroll you have to deposit the unidentified letters & 1 of the DC scrolls in the PC WH. More on why this is done later on.

Purchase one PC scroll and proceed to Step 5 and to any mine you want.

Step 5: Obtaining Brilliant Stone & 4 rate 3 or better gold ore

After both the gold ore and the Brilliant stone (or stones) has been obtained first scroll to PC and deposit the Brilliant stone (or stones) in the WH. Then use the other DC scroll to actually beginning the quest which is laid out on the Conquer web site. Proceed to Step 6 and starting the quest.

Step 6: Starting the quest

From here the guide on the website can be followed. Though it must be noted if you follow this guide the chance you will have to ever do that little consolation part of the quest and obtain 2000 silvers from Rachel is pretty remote. Earlier in this guide it was noted to buy a scroll in each city needed for this quest and deposit the scroll in the next city to be visited. This is to have the rapid setup for a next run. So with that being said follow steps 1-6 again. Only this time it isn’t necessary to stay up half the night to obtain Python Hearts. For that was already done.
