I. Introduction
==================================================================
Welcome to my guide on warlocks ^^ This guide is to improve, find suggestions, and answer questions for fellow warlocks and those interested in joining our lovely class.
Note: This guide is specifically for PvE warlocks and I will not help with PvP builds so don’t ask me for it.
==================================================================
II. What is a warlock?
==================================================================
Warlock is one of the two possible class changes at lvl30 for shamans and specialize in damage dealing and aoe. Warlocks have been known to be the best caster dps class and focused more on raw magatk than crit. Their human counterpart is the Magician.
==================================================================
III. Why choose to be a warlock? (Pros and Cons)
==================================================================
Pros:
- Cast time reduction buffs
- Multiple aoes
- Damage over time effects
- All defense and magic defense debuffs
- Wind Fort
- Pushbacks
- Crit skills
- Deal double dmg on any mob that is a boss class with Wind Property on them! (as of Episode II, The Chariot patch on 5/1/11)
Cons:
- Lack of instants
- Derplocks, overpopulation
- Expensive to maintain
- MP management (compared to Magicians)
- Only 1 revive (compared to Magicians)
- Only 1 ignore mdef attack
==================================================================
IV. Beginning as a vagrant Shaman
==================================================================
You get a free reskill after your job change quest so you can play around with skills a lot more easily when you’re just a shaman. You don’t HAVE to follow the exact skill setup for it since you’re free to try out different attacks but I find it to be an effective way to setup attacks and buffs up till 30.
==================================================================
V. The job change process
==================================================================
Once you hit lvl30, you can take your job change quest from Prince Shilly.
Prince Shilly can be found at Prince’s Quarters in northern Terminus.
Your task is to defeat 3 monsters – Mollroke, Lutz, and Astray. You may want to party with some friends to make it easier, all 3 are over lvl30 and elite. They can be found in Shrouded Valley.
Mollroke is located at The Dead Plain on a ledge above Booga Swordwind.
Lutz is found in a ditch not far south of Mollroke.
Astray is on a ridge overlooking Neill Lake and the card vendor.
Return to Shilly after claiming the kills, he will give you a choice to be a sage or warlock. Select warlock and he will direct you to Kuz Brix. He can be found at the Master’s Hall in eastern Terminus.
Now you’ve become a warlock! Congratulations! Speak to Kuz Brix again to claim your free reskill. It can be used only once and if you’re below lvl36 so make your choices accordingly.
==================================================================
VI. Neophyte warlock – On the road to being a Prolock
==================================================================
I will not force anyone to go with my build and use the skill exactly as I put it since everyone has their own opinion of what is important and what isn’t but I will offer my reasons why some skills are considered inefficient and not worth getting. My guide is made of suggestions, not requirements so please don’t feel pressured or start a flame war with me even if I pull out the slammer on useless skills like Typhoon. And I’m good at winning arguments anyways so don’t try me! XD
- Reasons for changes in skills from shammy tree:
- 28 int is near useless at that point as a warlock
- You will have more attacks as a warlock so you won’t need Flash
- SP spent on Sacred Prayer is better off on other skills (you should be good on heal amount at mid-high lvls with Devotion and a decent scepter since heal amounts on them get much higher)
- Shaman Skill Explanation:
- Tempest Shock>Spear will be your primary nuke combo, it’s fast and mp efficient
- Backward Teleportation – Might save your life if you can get far enough from mobs/boss and helps you move a bit ahead if you get your aim right
- Magic Whip – Defensive pushback to all around you within a short circumference, good for saving your ass and using a quick Teleport away
- Pyro Arrow – Another nuke and you need to max it to get Pyro Arrow2 as a warlock.
- Explosive Blast – Ignores the target’s magdef. Very good for bosses and you need to max it for Explosive Blast2 as a warlock (which ignores 75% magdef at max)
- Mana Regeneration – Helps you recover your mp quickly, no reason not to get it.
- Elemental Exposure – Massive debuff to enemy’s magdef, great for bosses.
- Spiritual Blessing – Your greatest buff ever. 15% cast speed reduction and 27% max weight increase.
- Magical Ascension – Adds 54 magatk to yourself only (as of Episode II, The Chariot patch on 5/1/11). Will be useful no matter what.
- Magical Amplification – 4.5% crit self-buff. Crit will add up with passives and just having a higher base INT as you lvl up, get it.
- Delayed Cure – On the go healing and useful for a variety of situations, you also need lvl1 to get Forceful Cure next
- Forceful Cure – Your spammable heal skill.
- Life Wave – Required lvl1 to get Communion
- Communion – So you will not agro some mobs just by walking past them. Like the description says, it works like a card so some mobs will still agro you (like Bigfoots).
- Bestowed Agility – For when you solo without someone to buff you, and required max to get Natural Power
- Natural Power – For when you solo, join a bf match, and go to dungeons without a sage (def for the healer since they don’t need atk). 975 all def will be very helpful unless you never use def/stam cards (I don’t know why you wouldn’t….)
- Weakened Dismissal – For when you solo.
- Augment Dismissal – For when you solo.
- Antidote – For when you solo.
- Revive – For when the healers die cuz it happens.
- Increased Intelligence – You need to max this to max Cane Expert.
- Cane Expert – 5% crit and passive for 3 sp. Worth it.
- Empowered Cloth Armor – 10% casting speed reduction passive to stack with your 15% reduction with Spirit Blessing
- Increased Wisdom – You need to max this for Devotion.
- Devotion – Heal +250 passive to junction with using scepters (sp is worth the cost since this is better than Sacred Prayer)
- Fortified Cloth Armor – 6% all dmg absorb, will be a good junction with 2 other warlock skills
- Warlock Skill Explanation:
- Tempest Shock>Spear will be a primary nuke combo for attacks since Tempest Shock2 gives you a 10% cast time decrease every time you cast it besides having a chance to lower enemy defense. And if a dungeon boss is afflicted with Wind/Ice property (Ice from Magicians) you can deal double dmg to any boss class mob (as of Episode II, The Chariot patch on 5/1/11).
- Combustion2>Pyro Arrow2 will be your second nuke combo for when Tempest Shock2 and Tempest Spear2 are on cd, not to mention that Combustion2 becomes your critical skill nuke
- Wind Fortification – The warlock’s form of self defense. It provides you with 20/30/40% dmg absorb for 30 seconds with no restrictions (for now)
- Tempest Barrage – A pushback skill that you need to get access to Hastened Whispers
- Windstorm – Another pushback and instant aoe, lvl1 required for Hastened Whispers
- Hastened Whispers – Decreases your casting speed by 30% for 30 seconds. Good for emergencies or quickruns in junction with Spirit Blessing, Property Granted – Wind, and Empowered Cloth Armor.
- Explosive Blast2 – 75% mdef ignore at max. Do want.
- Blazing Aspects – Buff that can be used on anyone and adds 54 atk at lvl3 (as of Episode II, The Chariot patch on 5/1/11). Very much worth getting!
- Blazing Anger – Another aoe to add to the collection and required lvl1 to get access to Mystic Recommence
- Mystic Recommence – Refresh cd so you can use your skills instantly again.
- Meteor Shower – One of the best attacks in the game. It’s a continuous aoe attack for 6 seconds and brutal in pvp to keep enemies running or attacking multiple targets on the spot.
- Explosive Blast (aoe) – Instant crit aoe, what’s not awesome about it?
- Ancient Fire – Another powerful aoe and it’s a crit skill too
- Mystical Amplification – 300 range passive, why not? You can kill from farther away and be safer.
- Fortified Cloth Amor2 – another passive 6% all dmg absorb, goes good with Wind Fortification
- Cane Expert2 – 6% more crit AND a passive for only 3 sp. Very useful.
Note: You cannot use any skills with the same name as their shammy skills.
I.E. you cannot use Pyro Arrow2 followed by Pyro Arrow from the shammy tree. THEY SHARE THE SAME CD.
Hellfire is OPTIONAL! It’s very useful at beginning lvls as a warlock but will become useless by the time you reach lvl50 (you will have at least 5 aoes) or sooner depending on how often you use it and how often you go to bf matches.
The current max sp for the game is 141 (as of Episode II, The Chariot patch on 5/1/11) at SLVL65 including all sp quests (Beginner class explanation, Job change, Old/Normal/Silver/Gold/General Medals, Bigfoot Hearts, Battlefield Medals, Purepia, and Spirit’s Breath items).

VII. Warlock Weaponry
==================================================================
This will encompass all rare/unique/epic staves (in that order) from lvl30 onwards. I won’t mention magic (green named) staves since they’re common and cheap to find in AH.
NOTE: You must be within 5 lvls of said mob/boss of the item to have the best drop rate but also note DROP RATE DOES NOT CHANGE NO MATTER WHAT LVL YOU ARE IN DUNGEONS (so you can theoretically farm with the same chance as anyone else for dungeon items!)

IX. Basic Do(s) and Don’t(s) of being a warlock
==================================================================
- Do:
- Wait until 85% hp on a boss before attacking so the tank can gather agro
- Carry a scepter around so you can heal yourself (make sure it gets updated when you can get a new one)
- Carry some emergency pots in case you run into a boss/world boss that you weren’t expecting
- Don’t:
- Attack too soon before tank can gather aggro from the boss
- Use pushbacks in a dungeon UNLESS boss or summon is chasing a healer/squishy person and you won’t be pushing the monster to said endangered person
- Using pushbacks is fine if you can be sure the boss is AGAINST A WALL
- It’s also ok to use pushbacks if you’re gonna help move Sharlack (2nd boss of Deco) out of his light buff but that doesn’t give you the excuse to spam it when he’s not in the light!
- Roll for a scepter that drops when a healer needs it
- Grab all the mobs in the room/area and think you can aoe them when you actually can’t (and blame the healer for dying)
- Lure a boss/mob onto a healer or run INTO a healer with a boss/mob, they won’t like you for it if you get them killed

XI. FAQs
==================================================================
Should I focus on magatk or crit more and why?
- As a warlock, you will be focused more in boosting your
raw
- magatk more so than crit. You could really go either way but focusing on using magatk cards is the best option as a warlock since we have more base magatk than a Magician (and they have more base crit than us) due to our class restrictive buffs (granted we can buff each other too). Never ever focus on boosting int – focus on magatk instead.
What is the best assist skill to take?
- All 3 really work but alchemy works the best IMO.
- Alchemy is for making the dmg absorb potions (and the 50% dmg absorb pots are untradeable) and having a huge supply of mp pots lol
- With cooking you can make the instant heal food items (which only have a 5sec cd and all but 2 untradeable) which will be immensely useful, but the instant recovery food at lvl58/60 (Gourmet Nourishing Healthy Meal and Advanced Nutritional Medicine respectively) is tradeable and instantly recovers 1650/2000 hp/mp respectively. Being able to make magatk food is very helpful too (they get very expensive to buy from the AH so you may want to consider making them yourself isntead).
- Card Making can be debated as the least useful of the 3, even with SLife Cards and S rank Character Cards being untradeable. They don’t add much more than their normal versions so you will hardly ever notice a difference. Being able to make your own end game high ranking Item Equip cards will be very useful but you can buy those off a friend (or if they’re nice, give them the mats and they will make it for you for free). Card making has the least useful untradeables.
What is the best tarot buff?
- Depending on your situation, it would be either Deadly Heat or Light Wings. If you’re in regular pve (dailies, etc.)
- Deadly Heat would be the best with its 10%/15% (normal/silver) speed buff. Reason being that it allows you to travel faster between mobs while Wind Property is still on you.
- Light Wings is the better choice for dungeons or in pve when you can’t kill a mob in 2 hits since criticals add 1.5x damage.
What cards should I use in slots?
- AB – Magic attacking power or life cards; having over 9k hp at around lvl50~ is preferrable for end game dungeons/world bosses/elites. I personally use magic attacking power cards though since my gear makes up for it.
- A – Magic attacking power cards always.
- B – Stamina or physical defense cards; depends what your current hp/pdef is.
- O – Stamina cards, obviously. Wisdom is useless since it gives even less stats than INT.
