Basically each gear is an extra 10% of the base value(2/3/5), but getting the rounding right makes it a bit more complex

The formula FLOOR((gears + 10.5) * n) matches the data for 1 thru 19 gears, where n = 0.2 for small batch, 0.3 for medium batch, and 0.5 for large batch. FLOOR means round down.

Gears=Small/Medium/Large
1=2/3/5
2=2/3/6
3=2/4/6
4=2/4/7
5=3/4/7
6=3/4/8
7=3/5/8
8=3/5/9
9=3/5/9
10=4/6/10
11=4/6/10
12=4/6/11
13=4/7/11
14=4/7/12
15=5/7/12
16=5/7/13
17=5/8/13
18=5/8/14
19=5/8/14
20=6/9/15

Overall it makes production boosts look more appealing than happiness boosts.

Edited to add 20 gears from thread

Edited: I just thought to look at the actual code. The formula above is equivalent to the one used in the code, except they use 10.4 instead of 10.5 as the constant. However due to the rounding that difference that has no effect on any values.

Edited: Adding link to similar data on happiness

Normal furnaces (and taverns) affect only horizontally or vertically touching rooms. The crown upgrade to these rooms increases the distance to 2 squares of “taxicab” distance … meaning add the horizontal and vertical distances.

For a normal furnace (the F below), you only get bonuses on the squares marked 1, with the crown upgrade you also get the bonus on the squares marked 2.
