Dynasty Saga Gambits Guide: All You Need to Know by Austin Ho

[Q1] Which type of generals have Gambit attacks?
[A1] All, except Dancer, Drummer, Caster and Siege generals.

[Q2] Why choose Gambit generals over Caster and Siege generals?
[A2] Caster requires good books, which are extremely hard to get, unless you are VIP4 or higher, and has lots of gold to refresh the daily quests (which you will get in level 40, which gives books as rewards). Siege are also hard to play, since you need to be lucky to get the good weapons (red or purple) from campaign as they only can deal Normal damage. Furthermore, Normal attacks can be blocked and dodged. Gambit attacks can only be dodged and there are choices of Gambit attacks to choose.

[Q3] What Gambit attacks are there?
[A3] There are 21 types of Gambit attacks, as follows:
[A3-01] Ambush – Deals decent damage to ONE enemy and stuns that enemy.
[A3-02] Assault (暗渡陈仓) – Deals decent damage to ONE enemy at the back, and stuns that enemy.
[A3-03] Berserker Rage – Deals high damage to ONE enemy, deals higher damage when self has less troops.
[A3-04] Commanding Shout (号令天下) – Deals no damage, but gives 120 morale to all friendly units.
[A3-05] Demoralizing Shout – Deals decent damage to ALL enemies with morale and burn off morale. (morale reduced is calculated by => 40 + self brav – enemy brav, with a minimum of 20 and maximum of 60
[A3-06] Desperate Measure – Deals moderate damage to ONE enemy and regaining 100 morale.
[A3-07] Guardian Protection (天神守护) – Deals moderate damage to ONE enemy, regaining 100 morale and cause self to takes only 50% damage from Normal and Gambit attacks until next round.
[A3-08] Full Onslaught – Deals moderate damage to ALL enemies.
[A3-09] Inspiring Blow – Deals decent damage to ONE enemy and steals all morale from that enemy.
[A3-10] Iron Will – Deals moderate damage to ONE enemy and cause self to take only 1 damage from Normal and Gambit attacks until next round.
[A3-11] Line Breaker – Deals decent damage to enemies in a COLUMN.
[A3-12] Relentless Assault – Deals decent damage to ONE enemy, TWO times.
[A3-13] Spearhead – Deals decent damage to enemies in a ROW.
[A3-14] Special Force – Deals decent damage to ONE enemy, adding Normal attack damage.

[A3-18] Thunder Strike – Deals high damage to ONE enemy.
[A3-19] Treacherous Ploy – Deals decent damage to ONE enemy and regain troops according to the damage dealt.
[A3-20] Vengeful Strike – Deals extremely high damage to target but also deals some damage to self.

[Q4] How to increase Gambit damage?
[A4] There are several ways to increase the Gambit damage, as follows:
[A4-1] Horse. Try to get a Red Horse from Scouting once you reach level 80. Red Horse is the ultimate weapon for a Gambit general. Purple Horse is too hard to get, dont waste your silver on it.
[A4-2] Research on Martial Prowess. Each upgrade on it gives +25 Gambit damage.
[A4-3] Morale. Each extra morale (over 100) gives 0.6% damage increased damage. Thats why Drummer is always the best friend of Gambit general.
[A4-4] Bravery. Bravery of the general increase the Gambit damage dealt by him/her. You can increase your general’s Bravery through enlighten.
[A4-5] Anvil formation. Each level of Anvil formation increases the Gambit damage by 1%.
[A4-6] Troops. The more troops your Gambit general has, the more damage he/she is able to deal.
[A4-7] Unit level. Each unit level increase the general damage (of all kinds). So use the reincarnation wisely.

[Q5] How to decrease Gambit damage received?
[A5] There are several ways to decrease the Gambit damage received, as follows:
[A5-1] Cloaks. Cloaks are the main defense against Gambit.
[A5-2] Research on Unbreakable Lines. Each upgrade on it gives +18 Gambit defense.
[A5-3] Bravery. Bravery of the general increase his/her Gambit defense. You can increase your general’s Bravery through enlighten.
[A5-4] Wild Goose formation. Each level of this formation increase the defense (of all kinds) of your troops by 1%.
[A5-5] Unit level. Each unit level increase the general defense (of all kinds). So use the reincarnation wisely.

[Q6] How should I choose my Gambit generals?
[A6] It is better not to get more than 1 Gambit hero, unless you are heavy gold user. Normal players have limited silver, and these silver should be used wisely, yes, on enhancing the Gambit general’s horse.

I would suggest a Gambit general which is able to deal damage to more than one enemy. As I said, we have limited silver and should try to focus our investment. If we only have one Gambit general but he only attacks one enemy at a time, it will take a long time to kill all the enemies (and its more likely that you got killed before that).

I personally recommend Full Onslaught and Spearhead, over Stampede and Linebreaker. The reason is simple, most of the players keep their damage dealer at the back. Full Onslaught and Spearhead are able to reach these targets easily. Linebreaker is harder to reach, while Stampede deals a lot less damage (the stun is unreliable).

[Q7] Any important tips when using Gambit generals?
[A7] Yes. These are some of my tips:
[A7-01] Get a Dancer to buff your Gambit. Dancer randomly fill one of your Gambit general to 100 morale (not add 100). If you are Shu or Wei, the only Dancer you are able to get is Cai Yan (until you reach Lu Bu campaign, where you can get Diao Chan). If you are Wu, you have several choices of Dancer, but I would highly recommend Sun Shang Xiang as she has high Strength and Bravery.
[A7-02] Dancer may fail her buff. It appears that the only way to increase the success chance is to level up her unit level.
[A7-03] Get rid of all your other Gambit generals in your formation. Always only have 1 Gambit general. Reason is other Gambit general may “steal” off the buff from your Dancer. You would benefit a lot more when your Dancer buff on your main Gambit general.
[A7-04] Drummer does not deal damage, but it gives 34 morale to all friendly Gambit generals. It also reduces 5 morale from all enemy Gambit generals. You can get 2 Drummers (Yi Ji and Liu Biao) from Liu Biao campaign to increase the morale of your Gambit hero. Each extra 1 morale (when over 100 morale) gives +0.6% extra damage on Gambit attack. And try put the Drummers after Dancer since Dancer will only fill the Gambit general into 100 morale, not adding 100 morale.
[A7-05] If you are Wu, you can get another Drummer from prestige quite soon. Other 2 kingdoms have to wait till 130k prestige. That is the complete formation for 1 Gambit build – 1 Dancer 3 Drummers and 1 Gambit.
[A7-06] Others may suggest to get Medic or another Siege general when lack of the 5th general. But I recommend not to. Medic requires an enhanced book and Siege general requires an enhanced weapon, which cost quite a lot of silver. The only unit I would recommend is Tortoise Siege as it can helps to tank and does not require weapon.
[A7-07] Avoid laning your Gambit hero with enemy which is able to dodge. All cavalries are good at dodging. Units which have high initiative are also good at dodging.
[A7-08] You can get a Blue Horse after completing Gongsun Zhang campaign. You can use it until you completed Yan Baihu campaign, where you will be rewarded a Yellow Horse. Then you can continue to use the Yellow Horse until you are level 80, where you should start scouting for a Red Horse.
[A7-09] Give the best armor and cloak to your Gambit general and Dancer as they are the key to win your fights. Drummers themselves have good defenses.
[A7-10] A Gambit general gains 34 morale when he/she succeed a Normal attack. He/She also gains 34 morale when he/she got attacked by a Normal attack.
[A7-11] Enemy Drummer reduce 5 morale from your Gambit hero, so you must have at least 1 Drummer to compensate the 5 morale lost. Only 1 Dancer is not enough.

[Q8] Other than 1 Dancer 3 Drummer 1 Gambit, is there other build?
[A8] Yes. You may consider 3 Drummers and 2 Gambits. With this build, you are able to get rid of risking yourself with Dancer’s failed buff. But this build is costly, it requires 2 Horse, and higher defense build. When PVP, most likely your Gambit generals are only use their Gambit attacks on second round (due to enemy Drummer making you only have 34×3-5=97 morale). But on the second round, you Gambits can deal around 160% damage. Comparing to 1 Gambit build, this build can deals higher damage and has no need to depend on luck (Dancer). But remember, the cost of this build is nearly doubled of the 1 Gambit build.
