Apex Legends Tips Compilation

Inventory and looting:
- The UI will tell you where an attachment will go to
- The UI will tell you which of your guns use the ammo you’re looking at
- If you open your inventory while running you will keep running
- You can find rare loot ticks which will drop purple/gold loot when destroyed
- These make robotic sounds to alert you to their presence, they can be quite hidden sometimes!
- The color of the tick corresponds to the loot value, so the one in the picture above contains gold loot
- Supply drops contain gold loot and sometimes a powerful unique gun (the mastiff or kraber)
- The blue area on the map is the hot zone, which will contain high loot and a fully kitted gold gun
- In a death crate, you can press this button to swap what weapon you are holding
- This helps to prioritize which weapon to trade or where attachments will go
- Normal supply drops have a red accent, while lifeline packages are blue!
- In the lower left of the inventory screen, you can see what equipment your teammates are wearing
- The top left of your screen tells you the name of the area you are entering and what sort of loot you might find
Movement and mobility:
- Redeploy balloons are scattered around the map and will let you glide to a new location
- Redeploy while your weapons are holstered to fly further
- When dropping make sure to dive every so often to keep your speed up and glide much further: around 130-145 will get you really far
- Pathfinders grapple will swing you to where you are looking while pulling you to where you shot it: look to the side to swing around the object you grappled
- You can scale high walls by jumping into them and keeping forward pressed
- You can climb higher if you holster your weapons
- If you stop just before vaulting you can hang and peek over the ledge
- All guns share the same movement speed, melee is faster
- All legends share the same movement speed
- Larger legends have a slower movement animation, but this is just an illusion, as they are still the same speed
- Some abilities increase movement speed:
- Wraiths tac/ult
- Bloodhounds ult
- Bangalores passive
- Mirages ult
- You can slide indefinitely down hills, which is often faster than running
- You can heal while sliding
- Jump after sliding to retain momentum for a bit longer, giving you a slight boost
- Ziplines can be jumped on at any point
- If you jump while on a zipline you will hop off, if you crouch you will drop down
- Jump on and off ziplines to become a harder target. Don’t fall off!
- You can even do a 180 on a zipline to go the other way: jump off, spin around and jump back on
- Sliding retains your mobility. If you slide off of a zipline/grapple/movement ability/etc you will slide faster and further!
- If you are downed while sliding you will continue to slide
- If you are downed while grappling you will continue to grapple
- You can slide immediately after landing to gain a large boost depending on your speed and direction
- Auclyn showed this off here
- If you melee at the very end of a slide you get just a little bit further
- If you stop holding forward while sliding you can look around freely without slowing down
- Walking is quiter, than sprinting, and crouching is quieter than walking
- If you walk on a roof above someone, they can very easily hear you
Teamplay and communication:
- You can confirm the pings of your teammates
- If you open up the ping menu while looking at a friendly ping, you can select different responses
- On pinged loot, this will call dibs on the loot!
- You can ping and highlight many objects in the world:
- Supply ships
- Pathfinder beacons
- Supply drops
- Loot ticks
- Crates
- Doors
- Respawn beacons
- Wraith portals
- Bangalore smoke
- Heal bots (this will thank your lifeline)
- In your inventory, you can ping empty attachment slots/the ammo icon to request them from your teammates
- You can ping empty weapon slots to ask for a weapon
- You can ping items inside death boxes to tell your teammates about them
- You can ping items in the utility menu (healt/shields) to request them
- Pressing the heal button without any heals will also request more heals from your teammates
- After picking up an item that was either dropped or pinged by a teammate, you can thank them
- The last person to get to pick a legend will always be assigned jumpmaster
- If this person doesn’t pick anything before the timer runs out jumpmaster will be given to the next player
- The jumpmaster can relinquish his position to another teammate
- If a player is assigned jumpmaster but he doesn’t pick a legend, the jumpmaster will be relinquished to another player
- You can ping while downed. Track the enemy in real-time!
- The UI will show you when a teammate is shooting
- The UI will show you both the bleed-out and revive timer
- Regardless of who picked up the player banner, either teammate can respawn them at a respawn beacon
Weapons and combat:
- Unique guns (mastiff and kraber) have their own unique ammo. It doesn’t show up in the inventory and can’t be refilled
- Range marks on scopes are ALWAYS accurate, regardless of the range, what gun you are using, zoom level and elevation
- Damage numbers are color coded:
- The color of the outline shows the level of shield, with red for no shield
- The fill color shows where you hit the enemy, with white for bodyshots and yellow for headshots
- When you break an enemies shield a unique sound plays
- Any gun which shoots multiple pellets/bullets will show you what bullets hit the target:
- All shotguns
- Triple take
- Mastiff
- This UI element will also show you which bullets got a headshot
- The hop-up (choke) for the peacekeeper will remember it’s tightened spread for 1 second after unscoping
- Some guns can switch their fire mode (hemlok on single fire is deadly)
- Melee a door once to open it in style
- Melee a door twice to break it
- Sniper optics take longer to ADS (Aim Down Sight)
- Stocks decrease the time it takes to ADS
- Finishers cannot be canceled unless you receive damage
- Melee pushes enemies backwards (this is SPARTA!)
- You can block doors with your body. This works when you are downed too
- You can shoot open doors by shooting the handle
Legends and abilities:
- Bloodhounds ult lets him see enemies through smoke
- Bloodhounds tac/ult let him spot a cloaked mirage
- Bloodhounds tac can spot loot ticks
- Bloodhound can ping tracks to warn his teammates about them
- Caustic gas traps can block doors
- Destroy caustic traps by shooting their base
- Caustic gas wont hurt teammates but will distort their vision and slow them down
- Caustic can’t be hurt by enemy gas
- Caustic can pick his traps back up, which will then refill his ability
- Gibraltars dome shield doesn’t extend down, so don’t place it higher than yourself
- Wraith can’t interact with doors while in the void
- Wraith can’t use ziplines while in the void
- Wraith’s portals can teleport downed players
- Wraith’s portals show up on the map
- You can throw grenades and shoot through Wraith’s portals
- Lifeline supply drops contain less powerful loot than normal supply drops
- Regardless, there is still a rare chance to get gold loot, including the guns!
- Lifelines bot will heal enemy players if they stand near it
- Lifelines bot can be pushed
- Bangalores tac can be used while performing various other tasks, such as reloading or healing
- Bangalores passive works even when the enemy misses you
- Bangalores tac will deal impact damage
- You can shoot the rockets from Bangalore’s ult to prematurely detonate them
- Mirage can use his tac while skydiving to send a decoy somewhere and bamboozle the enemy
- This ability is seperate from the normal one and gets you two decoys, so you might as well use them
- Decoys will imitate the player in many ways, they can even crouch and slide!
- Pathfinder can grapple onto enemies, pulling you towards each other for an easy melee/shotgun in the face!
- Pathfinder beacons are randomly spawned, so you won’t find them in the same spot every round
Items and grenades:
- Gold gear shares stats with purple gear, but has unique abilities:
- Helmet increases the rate at which your abilities recharge
- Armor lets you refill your shield by using a finisher
- Backpack reduces the time it takes to use heals/shields
- Knockdown shield will allow you to revive yourself once, after which it turns to purple
- Gold sights highlight enemies, even through smoke
- Shields grant you extra health, a full shield (4 bars) means you can take twice as much damage as without any shield
- Helmets reduce headshots damage:
- White reduces it by 30%
- Blue reduces it by 40%
- Purple/gold reduce it by 50%
- You can refill shield instantly by looting pristine armor
- Phoenix kits are extremely powerful but not stackable
- Frag grenades deal contact damage and are on a timer
- Arc stars can stick to enemies/surfaces, their timer doesn’t start til they land
- Arc stars are extremely effective against shields
- You can stick an arc star to a teammate and have them run towards the enemy for some easy damage
- Arc stars will slow the enemy
- Thermite will bounce of enemies and explode quickly after hitting something
- Thermite creates a literal wall of fire
- Thermite deals DoT (damage over time) to enemies
Settings and configs:
(this one is mainly for PC but if you have console tips for me I’ll be glad to hear them)
- You can link your steam account to Apex
- To do this you have to go to the lower left of your friendslist in-game. It’s working a bit finnicky right now however
- In the controls, you can swap between toggle and hold for crouching and aiming
- In the controls, you can assign specific key for every single type of ping
- In Origin, you can add -novid to the launch parameters (apex>settings>game properties>advanced launch options>command line arguments) to skip all intro videos
- See here for all possible launch parameters
- You can assign a key for screenshots and take screenshots directly in-game!
- There are a bunch of settings for changing the UI, in the form of item information, hitmarkers, pings and maybe more. Play around with them to see what you like!
- If you’re suffering from a poor connection quality, on the title screen you can change data centers
- This setting is a bit hidden, but this video explains it
Fun and easter eggs:
- The peacekeeper shoots its pellets in a star shape
- The EVA-8 shoots them in the shape of an eight
- The training map has tons of little secrets hidden around
- You can inspect your weapon (N on pc, left d-pad on consoles)
- If you do this with your hands empty your character will crack their knuckles!
- All supply drops will instakill those standing underneath them
- While DBNO (Down But Not Out) you can interact with doors
- Knives can be unlocked in the form of melee “skins”
- Currently there is only one of these in the game, the Heirloom pack is a Wraith exclusive with a 1/500 chance of dropping!
- If you melee in mid-air your character does a dropkick. This doesn’t deal any extra damage, but looks extra cool!
- If you melee while sliding your character will perform an uppercut!
- Canonically, the Mozambique is actually a peashooter in disguise, but you knew that already!
