Overwatch How To Be A Better Teammate
by Shisagi
COMMUNICATION IS KEY
Intel will provide your team with the upper hand. Good callouts are short callouts. Start the game by saying “Hello” and “How are you?”. This way both you and your teammates will be more comfortable using voice chat when the game starts. Callouts is a skill, to get better at it, put yourself out there.
DON’T BLAME YOUR TEAMMATES
Remember its a team sport to win. Don’t single out and call out teammates, morale will plummet. Pharse yourself inclusively. WE need to play more aggressive. What can WE do to fix the situation. Encourage your team, don’t blame them.
PLAY YOUR ROLE
Think about what role you are playing. If you are not doing your roles main job, no one is going to fill that role for you. Never think it is just the DPS, Tank or Healers fault if things are going badly.
Your teammates efficiency depend on how well you are doing your job.
Improve your job, and the rest of the team will do better.
ADAPT TO THE SITUATION
If someone on the enemy team is causing your team trouble, counter them. Rounds can be short and a counter can at times be more important than your upcoming ultimate. Be willing to swap and remember that learning other characters will improve your game sense and make you better at your main hero. If you think your team might need a counter, suggest it, rather than demanding it. People generally don’t like being told what to do. Make it their idea to swap.
STAY IN YOUR HAPPY PLACE
Even if things are going badly, try to stay in your happy place. Your mindset can be contagious, whether it is positive or negative. If what you want to say is negative, do the hard part and don’t say anything at all. If what you want to say is positive, share it. Encouragement will win you games. Remember that there are real people on the other end. What you write or say matters.
ULTIMATES WINS THE FIGHT
Start your game and fights by thinking about what ultimates your team can combo. Make sure your teammates are alive and ready to follow up on your ultimate. Telling them you want to combo can be a good way of making sure your teammates are aware. Pay attention to your teams ultimate charge by pressing TAB and remember to press Z inform your team. Giving a headsup in voice chat will get you a long way towards a successful combo. If you are aware of upcoming enemy ultimates, chances are your teammates are not. Share it.
REMEMBER TO TAKE BREAKS
This is a game that tries to pit you against equal opponents. That means you have to be on top of your game if you want to rank up. If its not going your way, take a break and come back later with a fresh mindset. After all, its just a game.
DON’T LET YOURSELF BE ABUSED
Sometimes people can just be straight up A**holes. Don’t buy into toxic behaviour and let yourself be triggered. Mute, report and move on. Don’t let strangers on the internet define your day.
