Greetings Captains,
there are a lot of questions about the Matchmaker (MM) and many of the new captains are surprised when they get into high tier battle with their low tier ship. The battle’s tier is characteristic that shows the minimal and maximal tier of the enemy ships if they are not in division. The MM is different for each class, but it’s possible to set it for each individual ship and there are some with special MM.
For now it’s random in which battle you will get (as top tier or as lowest tier) it simply depends which battle tier will be filled first. There are plans to limit the amount of battles where you can end up as the lowest tier and after few such battles in a row the MM will let you wait for battle where you will be top tier.

Divisioning:
When in a division only the ship with the highest spread is considered for MM.
- This means that a T4 BB in a division with a T5 BB will find games with the high tiers in the battle ranging from anything from 5 to 8.
- A T6 CV with a T6 BB will find games with the high tiers ranging from 6-9.
- An Atlanta has a limited spread. Being in a division with a similar tier Cruiser (T7) can put it in a battle against T10s even though it should not be encountering these tiers.
- A T3 BB can division up with a T4 Cruiser. While the BB will never end up as a top tier ship the range of the high tier ships will be within the usual MM of the game.
- At T6+ if in a division with a CV making sure that the CV is the highest tier (+1 to the rest of the division) will ensure teammates and enemies which are within the usual limitations of the MM.
