FFXIV Raising iLv Quickly Strategy
FFXIV Raising iLv Quickly Strategy by RSFiye
Congratulations on hitting level 50! If you’re new to the game and wondering why that White Mage has almost twice as much HP as you or back from a year long hiatus and wondering where to go to get back up to speed you’re at the right place!
This is not a guide for figure out how to finish your Relic Weapon to its Nexus State, or to get those primal weapons from Rowena for doing Titan/Garuda/Ifrit Extreme. This is a guide to figure out where to devote to your time in order to get the best gains in iLv. It is up to your discretion whether you should invest in the Book of Diamonds for your SCH or get the True Codex of Ice.

Starting out in the 7th Astral Era
As a starting note, remember that gil is a resource you can exchange in lieu of performing work. Understand that the price of gear gets exponentially higher as you go up in iLvs. iLv110 gear will cost a lot more than iLv50 thanks to a combination of demand, rareness of materials, and the high Craftsmanship/Control requirements. Not to mention the randomness of making a HQ result. Buy equipment at your own discretion.
Your Options as a fresh 50 (iLv <50)
Dungeon/Raid/Trial | iLv Requirement | Where to unlock |
---|---|---|
Duty Roulette: Main Scenario | None (Level 50 Job) | Unlocked upon completion of The Praetorium |
The Wanderer’s Palace | None (Level 50 Job) | Allene in Vesper Bay, Western Thanalan (x11,y13) |
Amdapor Keep | None (Level 50 Job) | Nedrick Ironheart – Western Thanalan (x12,y14) |
The Main Scenario will be your primary source of income for Soldiery. At 100 a day, you’ll have access to iLv100 jewelry at a pace of 1 every 4 days. This will give you a large jump in iLv and make gearing easier.
Wanderer’s Palace and Amdapor Keep both drop iLv55 Armor and Weapons.
A Relic Reborn (iLv 57+)
Dungeon/Raid/Trial | iLv Requirement | Where to unlock |
---|---|---|
A Relic Reborn: The Chimera | ilv52 | Part of The Weaponsmith of Legend quest chain. |
A Relic Reborn: The Hydra | ilv52 | Part of The Weaponsmith of Legend quest chain. |
The Bowl of Embers (Hard) | ilv49 | Part of A Recurring Problem quest chain. |
The Howling Eye (Hard) | ilv52 | Part of A Recurring Problem quest chain. |
The Navel (Hard) | ilv57 | Part of A Recurring Problem quest chain. |
You’ll want to tackle this as soon as humanly possible. The reward for the somewhat length and actually fun quest line will reward you with the most basic form of your Relic Weapon. Be wary, as at this point the difficulty of FFXIV 2.0 will begin to show. Especially with Titan’s 3.3k health requirement.
Don’t fret though. Echo will help you mitigate some of the damage and DPS requirements. Though they won’t help you through the instant-death mechanics like Titan’s Landslide.
Remember, once you have your Relic Weapon, buy 3 Thavnairian Mist so you can upgrade your relic weapon to its Zenith status (iLv90). The Atma portion of the quest has become much easier as well with the recent increase in Atma drop rates. Getting a subpar iLv100 weapon should be an easy task.
The Wolves’ Den and Frontline
Recommended by Sapphidia and definitely something to look at for an easy upgrade to iLv90. You’ll start off unlocking The Wolves’ Den by talking to your Grand Company in your home city. A few fetch quests will unlock PvP in several bracket’s.
Light Party (Lv 30, Lv 40, iLv80, Uncapped) Matched Party (iLv80, Uncapped)
If you want to take your PvP experience further, you can unlock Frontlines by performing the quest “Like Civilized Men and Women” at your home city. Frontlines requires a level50 job and caps your gear at iLv80. Rewards vary for what place your Grand Company finishes in.
There are three tiers of gear that do not require PvP level.
Wolf: iLv55 crafted. Uses very cheap mats and sells cheaply on the MB. Warwolf: iLv70 bought with Wolfmarks. Direwolf: iLv90 bought with Wolfmarks. Costs twice as much as Warwolf gear.
The Crystal Tower (iLv70+)
Dungeon/Raid/Trial | iLv Requirement | Where to unlock |
---|---|---|
Labyrinth of the Ancients | ilv50 | Outlandish Man Mor Dhona – Fogfens – Revenant’s Toll (21-8) |
Syrcus Tower | ilv70 | G’raha Tia Mor Dhona – North Silvertear – Saint Coinach’s Find (30-12) |
The questline to unlock Labyrinth of the Ancients will involve several fates that you will want to bring a chocobo and maybe a friend. It involves several specific FATEs you’ll be camping for a bit in the Beast tribe areas.
The Crystal Tower is not a difficult raid. Damage is very light and mechanics are very easy to manage. I recommend looking up a video or reading up on the mechanics. At the very worst, one of the 24 other members in the group can explain the fights.
Labyrinth of the Ancients drop iLv 80 armor and is a good source of Soldiery. However, thanks to its queue times you’ll want to minimize the amount of runs through this Raid. Please note you must complete Labyrinth of the Ancients prior to continuing on to Syrcus Tower.
Syrcus Tower drops iLv100 armor, two Sands of Oil, two Sands of Time, and a Unidentified Allagan Tomestone. You’ll be repeating this dungeon as lot due its low iLv requirement and high iLv gear drops.
Coils of Bahamut and Relevant Extreme Primals (iLv100+)
Dungeon/Raid/Trial | iLv Requirement | Where to unlock |
---|---|---|
The Binding Coil of Bahamut: Turn 5 | iLv82 | Urianger Western Thanalan – The Waking Sands |
The Second Coil of Bahamut: Turn 1 | iLv90 | Urianger Western Thanalan – The Waking Sands |
The Second Coil of Bahamut: Turn 2 | iLv95 | Urianger Western Thanalan – The Waking Sands |
The Second Coil of Bahamut: Turn 3 | iLv100 | Urianger Western Thanalan – The Waking Sands |
The Second Coil of Bahamut: Turn 4 | iLv105 | Urianger Western Thanalan – The Waking Sands |
The Striking Tree (Extreme) | iLv85 | Scarlet – New Gridania (x9,y11) |
Akh Afah Amphitheatre (Extreme) | iLv95 | Urianger Western Thanalan -The Waking Sands |
This is where the game becomes much harder. Skill, patience, and friends are a must. The Duty Finder is not your friend here.
The Binding Coils of Bahamut: Turn 5 is your first welcome to extreme content. Even in iLv110 gear and a 20% echo people still wipe to this fight. Watching a video and running in is not enough. You will need to practice and learn all 5 phases of the fight. For your effort, a iLv95 weapon and a piece of ilv90 gear is yours. But this is not why you’re here.
The Second Coil of Bahamut are unlocked upon completion of Binding Coil of Bahamut: Turn 5 (Turns 1-4 not required). These fights are difficult (Even with the recent nerfs and 10% echo). The same preparation used in the Binding Coil of Bahamut Turn 5 should be exercised here. Rewards for the Second Coil of Bahamut include iLv110 Armor and Accessories. As well as a iLv115 Weapon from Turn 4.
The Striking Tree (Extreme) and Akh Afah Amphitheatre (Extreme) are the extension of quests that coincide with “The King Lives” And “Whorl of a Time”. Completion of both Thornmarch (Extreme) and The Whorleater (Extreme) are required. The Striking Tree (Extreme) is regarded as a much more difficult fight thanks to its mechanics that require constant communication between party members.
The Striking Tree (Extreme) Drops iLv100 weapons occasionally and a iLv110 Ring. Akh Afah Amphitheatre (Extreme) Drops iLv110 Weapons and a iLv120 Bracelet.
Maximize your iLv!
Dungeon/Raid/Trial | iLv Requirement | Where to unlock |
---|---|---|
Duty Roulette: Expert | iLv80 | Unlocked upon completion of Sastasha (Hard), The Sunken Temple of Qarn (Hard), and Snowcloak |
Duty Roulette: High Level | iLv70 | Unlocked upon completion of all level 50 dungeons with the exception of those in Duty Roulette: Expert |
Duty Roulette: Trials | iLv80 | Unlocked upon completion of all trial battles. Including Akh Afah Amphitheatre (Hard), The Dragon’s Neck, and those involved in A Relic Reborn. |
The Final Coil of Bahamut | iLv110 | Urianger Western Thanalan – The Waking Sands |
Duty Roulettes give a bonus of Poetics in addition to the dungeon’s or trial’s normal drops. Useful in making sure you hit that weekly allowance of 450.
Beyond purchasing Ironwork gear with Poetics, the only other method of obtaining gear higher than iLv110 is by completing the Final Coil of Bahamut. Expect iLv130 Armors and Accesories. In addition to Carbontwine (Poetics version of Sands of Time) and Carboncoat (Poetics version of Oils of Time) to augment your Ironwork gear and an Encrypted Tomestone to help you purchase Ironwork weapons. Don’t forget about the iLv135 weapons dropped by the boss in Turn 4.
