League of Legends Machine Gun Lulu Guide
League of Legends Machine Gun Lulu Guide by Shinsist
I’m a support main, and I love Lulu and play her every chance I get; her versatility is second to none (she can support, she can mid, now she can top) and she’s super fun to play. However, since I hit level 30 I’ve been trying to get more familiar with some other roles just in case the support role is actually disputed in a ranked match. I was having a look at this tier list, and noticed that she was listed as a strong choice for top.
So I thought I’d give her a try, and the results were fantastic and hilarious. Most of the top champions currently inhabiting the meta are not equipped to handle Lulu: her auto attack range combined with her passive makes it easy to get free damage off on your opponent, and her E provides good burst early game that most of your enemies up top won’t have. Additionally, she has three forms of crowd control, and once you start building attack speed you’ll be able to combine the two and just destroy your lane. Getting ganked because the enemy jungler thinks they can get free kills off of poor squishy Lulu? Fear not. Pop a Q on them and a W on yourself and you’re literally ungankable. Once you start building attack damage and speed, your autos become like a machine gun (it’s really kind of funny to watch) and with a couple tweaks to an adc rune set and build, she can be a veritable monster.
Here are a couple tips I’ve picked up.
Most of your spell use should be for utility. Since you’re not going to be picking up Spellthief’s Edge or Chalice, your mana will run out really quickly if you’re not careful. A couple E-Q combos are fine for burst, but you don’t want to be caught in a pushed lane with no real means to escape. Limit mana use and rely on autos for your damage.
Position yourself like an ADC in teamfights. If you’re not familiar with the ADC role/where you should be in a teamfight in general, it’s as far away from hard-ccing enemies and close to your support as possible without endangering yourself. AD Lulu is no exception as she will be squishy, but be able to do consistently high damage from afar.
Learn how your passive affects your CSing. CSing with Lulu can be tricky if you haven’t done it, since the extra damage from Pix comes at a bit of a delay from her auto. Learn how to adjust your timing properly so that you don’t miss CS.
Your E is the best early laning utility ever. Since it grants vision (five seconds of it), your opponent won’t be able to drop minion aggro after harassing you by going into the bush, since your creeps can now see them. It’s also great if they’re trying to escape after trades because it pretty much guarantees that you’ll land an extra Q and will allow you to get 1 or 2 more autos off that you otherwise wouldn’t without the vision. Put more early points in this than your Q as it’s great for bursting.
Don’t be afraid to spam your ultimate. Its cooldown is super low as ults go, and will allow you to use it pretty much every time you want to finish your lane opponent off. Don’t worry about it being on cooldown while your jungler ganks, since you can just W them and Q your enemy.
Teamfights will be easy as long as you position yourself correctly (see above): use your ult on your initiator/tank, and focus a carry with your autos. If an enemy has been chunked down enough so that you predict they’ll try to escape, immediately use your Q as a preemptive measure so they’ll be slowed, and if appropriate, use W on an allied pursuer to secure the kill. Remember, your abilities should mainly be for utility and not damage. Your E can be placed on your carry if they’re in a better position than you are, but remember that once you transfer Pix to an ally, they gain that bonus damage and you lose it.
For your build, Start with Cloth Armor and health potions, and on your first recall get a Doran’s Shield. These will help you immensely early on as it will negate some of your opponent’s damage and give you better sustain. Next, rush BotRK, since it’s pretty much an essential for any attack-based champion. Wit’s End is a great second choice because of the attack speed buff, and the extra magic damage it gives to your already-buffed auto attacks. If all is going well and you’d like a little extra damage for your spells, get Nashor’s tooth. From here you can pick and choose from the standard AD items according to your situation. If you’re not doing too well, Randuin’s is a great choice.
I’m not an expert so if you have any suggestions or corrections I’d love feedback, but I’ve been having huge amounts of fun with AD Lulu and hopefully this will get some more people to try her, and get some supports out of the bot lane. Enjoy!
