Hearthstone Playstyles Basic Guide

Hearthstone Playstyles Basic Guide by Prongs

Hello everyone,

As a long time player of Magic the Gathering I will most likely be using it as a reference. As well I may use terms from other TCGs or just create my own that could fit into this CCG. But without further ado lets get to discussion on which Hero’s Deck will support the different types of play style.

Styles of Play:
(The more General Styles, you could go into further detail and expanded into other play styles.)

Aggressive or “Aggro” Style:
Aggro Deck are famed for winning games in the least amount of turns as possible. These decks will make use of low costing minions with charge and begin swinging into the enemy Hero starting turn one. These minions in combintion of ‘burn’ (or direct damage) spells allow the deck to deal with blockers and deal the last bits of damage to win the game. Within the realm of Magic the Gathering red decks were some of the best Aggro decks but both green and black were able to rush a victory for set to set.

Burn:
This Play Style revolves around using direct damage spells to beat down the enemy hero and his minions. It will be a cross of Aggro using the “Burn” ascept on the enemy hero and the “control” style using removal to keep minions off your hero while you burn him down.

Control Sytle:
The Control Decks are known for well controlling the battlefield. Through the use of removal (card that get rid of another card an oppenont controls), board sweepers (card that clear the board), and other cards that allow you to either control the field or control an opponets actions they are able to brings their win conditions (cards in a deck that are ment to win the game) on the field and win the game. Magic the Gathering has a great control set up, with the “control” card normally coming from the Blue, Black, or White cards.

Ramp-Up:
If you have ever played or even heard of MTG you know about the elves and their “ramp-up” capablities. Ramping up is playing cards, most often minions, that give a bonus to your mana generation. This allows you to play bigger and strong creatures that will with any luck over whelm the smaller defenders your opponets weaker ones. The keys to this style of play is to have enough ‘ramp’ to get into those large minions without stalling.

Minion Overrun:
This Deck type is based on Minions. There are two different ways this deck type could be played so I will describe them both briefly.

Style 1: These way is siminlar to the Aggro play style but doesn’t work as fast. It is based on fielding large amounts of lower and mid level drops onto the field and then using certain cards to boost their attacks as they all attack as one. If minions are dealt with fast an opponet will be overwhelmed very quickly.

Style 2: This style is very similar to one above with the difference being the player uses a smaller amount of minions but has a higher amount of spells used to make your minions stronger, protect them, or buff them in other ways. Once the minions are buffed you swing into the enemey hero with a small number of overly buffed minions.

Commander:
A deck based on keeping your Hero alive and buffing his attack is the main focus of this play style. The cards within consist of life gaining cards, equipment to help boost your hero, and minions that will either serve as blockers or help your hero out in some way. This will be an interesting deck for some hero but will most likely not work with others.

Other:
These are just he play styles and deck types that I believe could become competative within the Hearthstone playing. There are many other deck types (I.E. Mill, Self Harm, etc) but they will require alot of work as of now to be played.

As well you can mix and mash the deck types above for your own creations.

Below are as of know the Heroes that in my option fit with each Heroes card Selection (these do no take into effect the neutral card selection). They some classes could do some other roles than listed below with the right build and the right player. If you can come up with an argument against one of the listed below, post it and I could edit the post.
