Foreword

Hello Pilots and the one who want to be. After the great success from my guide in the german section here follows the english version of the guide.  Please note that the guide is only a guideline and not a rule. Fell free to test some moves an tactics at yourself if you feel ready for that :)

So I wish you many fun with this guide and I hope that you will like it :)

1. The Basics

Here I explain you the basics of the game.

1.1 The Planemodules

In general you can split the modules you can research with you plane in four categories.

1. Airframe
2. Machineguns
3. Engine
4. Outboard weapons (rockets and bombs)

The extent to what is useful and what you should research I would like to explain to now.

At first the airframe:

It is really useful to first research the airframe but that only in the higher tiers (from Tier 5) because until then you come forward really fast and a complete researching of the machine has no use. Of course you can first research the machine fully if you like the plane or whatever ;)

With the MG’s it is until Tier 5 the same. But here it is really important that you research the engine at first and than the next better MG’s because if you don’t do that your engine can not bring the optimal performance. So research the engine at first and than the MG’s! Of course there is always the way to research the MG’s at first but because of my own experience I can’t recommend you to do that.

Researching the engine is always good. It brings you more speed and power. It is always useful to have the best engine to have a climbing and speed advantage against your opponent. So you can escape quicker and you won’t die so fast ;)

The outboard weapons (rockets and bombs) are in my opinion only useful on heavy fighters and GAAs (GroundAttackAircrafts). On fighters and carrier based fighters they just hinder you in your manoeuvrability. So please just use the outboard weapons on Ground attackers. Using a rocket for shooting down other Aircrafts is very very difficult and even the very good players don’t hit their target every time.

1.2 The Extras

Under Extras I understand all Modules that can be bought and used under the point “Service” in the Hangar and the equipment next to the point “Modules”.

So it is on one way the ammunition and the “consumable” modules.

Actually my ammo choice falls on the high explosive. This ammunition might be expensive  but it has a 10% chance of fire and does more damage than the normal ammo. If you don’t want to take the standard ammo and not the high explosive you can take the Incendiary ammunition. But I can recommend that kind of ammo to you because now every pilot has a fire extinguisher in his plane and than you 15% chance of fire is useless.

As the consumable modules I always use the fire extinguisher and the gasoline. The first-aid kit is useless because your pilot neer gets injured… well I have never seen it during all my open beta battles.

To the equipment I can not tell you too much. I using all the modules in my favourite planes but the use of them is controversial. Who doesn’t want to spend money can leave them out.

1.3 The Pilot

Like in WoT you can level you Pilot here. When he reaches 100% you can use a skill. If you get the 100% by playing or buy using gold, or at the moment tokens, is your choice. Ofr the choice of the skill I can tell you that only the skill “Increased View Range” and the skill “Engine Guru” are useful. The skill “Stamina” is totally useless because your pilot never gets injured.

2. The Nations

Before you choice a nation you should ask yourself the question “What I like the most?” Is it firepower? Agility? Speed? Or tons of HP? If you know what you want you can choose your nation. I will explain you now the pros and cons of the different nations

2.1 Germany

Germany has good planes which have a high firepower and an acceptable amout of HP. However, many of the german planes are unagile. This counts for both trees.

Special: Firepower

2.2 USSR

The russians have fighters with a very very good maneuverability and a good firepower. but the fighters have comparatively just a little amount of HP and an acceptable speed. With the GAAs it looks much different. They have a high amount of HP and a damn high fire power. But the GAAs are as maneuverable as a stone with lumbago.

Special Fighters: Maneuverability
Special GAAs: Firepower, HP

2.3 USA

The american planes all have a good velocity but not a so good firepower like the other nations. They are close under them. The HP is in the average and the maneuverbility is close above the germans.

Special: Speed

2.4 Japan

Yes… The Japanese. They are damn maneuverable and have a very high fire power. But their armor-plating is as good as the armor-plating of butter in the sun and their speed is a bit like the speed of a snail. So they are very slow and have a low amount of HP. In turnfights? Unbeatable.

Special: maneuverability, firepower

3. What control?

Before you sit behind the wheel, you should know with which controlsheme you want to use. Here a pair of tips which should help you.

3.1 Joystick

I think that the Joystick is the best kind of control you can have. You have all the control over your plane you can have and you can use your boost as you want. The only thing that is tricky is the aiming. But with practise you can master it. I recommend the Thrustmaster T 16.000 M. An very good joystick I am using at myself.

3.2 Mouse

Since called WoT-Mouse now just called mouse. The easoest controlsheme in the whole game. It is perfect for beginners because the AI is helping you with many many things and the aiming is very easy. But with with goodies you loose many of you personal control of your plane. So it might be happen that you fly into a mountain when the joystick player is just smiling and happy about his full control of the plane. So for the start might be good but if you want the full fun of World of Warplanes you shouldn’t use it.

3.3 Mouse Version 0.4.1

Here you have more control about your plane but in general it is the same like in the point 3.2. For starters this is such the better choice than the normal mouse.

3.4 Gamepad

I have never played with the Gamepad so I can’t tell you anything about it. But if you know how to use it. Why not?

3.5 Keyboard

With the Keyboard I have never played, too. Just a mix of Mouse and Keyboard. But I think that is it a usable control sheme. But of course you should have an glimpse on all those controlshemes.

4. Flying Basics

4.1 General manouvers

General manouvers you can see in this Video here:

4.2 The boost

The boost is one of the most important tools. You can deny to overfly your enemy and you can gain some speed to come quicker from point A to point B. I don’t know how it is with the Gamepad but I think the Joystick is the only controlsheme where you can use the boost the most effective. With all the other controlshemes you can just boost or not shut down the engine. An “between” is just with the joystick possible.

When you need to use the boost will tell you once the experience. But here two examples:

1. You are at point A3 of the map and you see the last enemy on D5. Now you can use your boost to come there much faster.

2. You are with your I-15 behind a Tsh-1 but you are quicker. Now you can get the speed a bit down and get the speed you need.

4.3 Turnfights

In turnfights or also called “dogfights” it is very important that you use your flaps. Just with them you can turn at the best. Don’t use the boost while turning because it can you happen all the time that a more agile enemy gets behind you and than you don’t have any chance of flying away. And please deny to fly into huge amounts of enemys or allies. The chance of crashing is to high. Also you shouldn’t turn against more agile enemys.

5. How to win?

Everybody wants to win. But how to do it? Here I will explain it to you.

5.1 Teammates

A lot depends on you and your teammates. Communicate with your team and have always an eye on it if one of your team is needing help and than come to him and bring him out of the trouble. Don’t flame and be always polite. Please don’t go together with 5 allies behind one enemy when another of you team has four enemys behind him. That helps noone. Use your brain and work with your mates. So you will win.

5.2 Positioning

Something also counts on how your position is. If you are playing a fighter you should climb at the start to have a better overview. If you are playing a GAA stay at the ground that you can bombtrap your enemys and that you are much faster at the groundtargets. Try to not fly into huge amounts of enemys alone and always think of the risk you might have if you are doing this or that. If someone has four enemys behind him help him and wirte your teammates that they should come and help. So you might don’t win every game but you will win more often.

I hope my guide helped me and you like it. It is the first guide I have ever written for a game. If you have questions or if you hadn’t understand what I have written just ask. If you have some tipps what I could do better just tell me :) If you liked it I would be happy about a thumbs up :)

See you on the battlefield
