TERA Online Crystals Guide
TERA Online Crystals Guide by Deioth
This guide on crystals is made from the most up to date information, as gathered from both KTERA and WTERA (tests). The guide is divided into 5 main categories. The first part of this guide explains the crystal system. The second element looks at basic set-ups. The third component is on advanced builds, with a focus for many different situations. This is followed by a list of all the crystal effects. Finally there is a theory-crafting post, this contains mathematical facts with in-game proof (not yet released as I still need to work on the PvP aspect). Please refer to the table of content at the end of this post only after you have read the full introduction.
Please note this guide isn’t finalised, I still haven’t been able to obtain all the official names for the crystals. As such in the advanced builds I give their effects rather than their names, this will be updated as soon as I get the official names. Furthermore I am not fully satisfied with the way the guide looks and I will keep on improving it over time. I figured however that since the game is entering CBT1 it would be a good idea if players had access to the guide now.
There are two main types of crystals, defensive (blue) and offensive (red). The defensive sort can be socketed into your chest piece, while the offensive type goes into your weapon.
A nice feature of the crystal enhancing system is the fact that they are not “bound” to a particular item once socketed. This means that if the player is out of combat, or not in action, they can remove and add different crystals on the same item.
There is a limited amount of socket slots available, and this is restricted by an item’s rarity
It is important to note that crystals have a chance of breaking upon death. There are some rare crystals which will never break, however they have not yet been seen in the Western TERA version. Furthermore, different crystal types require different conditions for their effect to be activated. Moreover, some crystals can be stacked, while others cannot be. Whether a crystal can be stacked or not, along with the crystals activation conditions, will be shown in the crystal list later on in the guide.
So far there are 6 tiers of crystals, depending on their requirement levels. The requirement relies on both your level and an item’s level to be socketed; as such you can only socket crystals of the same or lower level than both you and your item. It also appears that they have a name given according to their tier. Their vendor buying and selling price also varies.
All the basic crystals can be bought from the Crystal merchant. The more advanced “uncommon” crystals however are gained from monster drops or from opening Eggs (a type of quest rewards).
The information is summarised below:
Level 11 – Tier II – Cabochon – Buy from vendor for 621 gold – Sell to vendor for 62 gold
Level 23 – Tier III – Hexage – Buy from vendor for 4,177 gold – Sell to vendor for 398 gold
Level 35 – Tier IV – Pentant – Buy from vendor for 12,876 gold – Sell to vendor for 1,226 gold
Level 48 – Tier V – Concach – Buy from vendor for 46,791 gold – Sell to vendor for 4,456 gold
Level 58 – Tier VI – – Buy from vendor for gold – Sell to vendor for gold
I will now cover a few basic crystal setups, which are optimal for all-round builds. These are mainly for when you are leveling up and only have access to the Crystal merchant and do not have many uncommon crystals. For level 38 and above I suggest using the more advanced builds which are described in the posts below.
PvP Build
In terms of PvP set-ups, it will greatly vary between the type of fight. Whether it be 1vs1 or 5vs5, also the class you are playing and your enemies’ class will affect the setup. Regarding the red/aggressive crystals; there is one which I feel is crucial to any PvP fight, and that is the “Swift” crystal type. It offers increased movement speed while in combat. This will greatly assist the melees with chasing their targets, and help the ranged classes stay away from the melees (of course this is negated if both you and the opponents use this crystal). You can only equip one “Swift” crystal on a weapon, hence there will be 1-3 other spare slots.
A safe bet for an all-round (i.e. good for any class, vs any class) build is to then use “Brilliant” crystals. They will regenerate MP over time, which is crucial for any class. It is actually quite important to note the role of MP in PvP. Many fights will result in one person running out of mana, making it a critical point for the opposing player to strike. Furthermore, if MP regeneration crystals are stacked, the player will most likely enter a fight with max MP, enabling use of the full skill list early on. This is very important for mana hungry classes, such as the melee classes and archers.
Regarding the blue/defensive crystals; this greatly varies on the class you play, your opponents, and whether you are in a party or not. The best starting option here is to either go with “Relentless” or “Vigorous” types. The first will grant a large amount of additional HP, while the second will allow for HP regeneration over time. I would say that when soloing, or without a healer, the “Vigorous” crystals are more useful, especially for ranged classes. If there is a healer available, I personally prefer greatly increasing my maximum HP with “Relentless” as some people can hit you very hard if you are not careful.

PvE build
PvE set-ups are also a very wide topic to cover, I will describe a few builds that fits most classes. The builds are both efficient for soloing and group situations, although there are better and more complex builds depending on specific situations. The advanced builds are described in later posts.
From level 1 to 20 I recommend using “Brilliant“ on your weapon. The reason is that you will only have 2 slots for the majority of the time, and a third when you are nearing level 15 or so (you get blue gear from the campaign). In terms of defensive crystals, I always use one “Fleetfoot” which enables for faster out-of-combat speed. It will greatly help in moving from mob to mob while questing and make it faster to also reach quest destinations. The other slot(s) I recommend using “Vigorous” as you can pretty much attack mobs non-stop with the HP regeneration it provides.
Once you obtain a legendary weapon and armour I recommend adding one more “MP Regen” and “HP regen”.

Maximum damage build
Do you want that “feel good” experience that you get from doing a huge damage burst as a damage dealer (or even a Tank or Healer)? Although it is very limited in terms of the situation required, you will feel that smile on your face when you crit for 7-8 times more than your normal damage
Here is the crystal build you will need for BAMs:
Focused + Savage + Mortal Strike + Executioner’s Anger (Normal monsters) or Wrath of the Challenger (BAMs).
+Crit % | BAM Def | ||
+Crit under 50% HP | BAM Def
+Dmg under 50% HP | BAM Def
+Crit on enraged mob | BAM Def |
This will require you to be at 50% HP and also face the enemy’s back. Note that the names of the last 3 crystals are from Korean translation. I know they exist in the Western version, however I wasn’t able to take screenshots and write down their names.

Up until now I have only managed to gather information on the crystals which can be bought from a vendor. As I find the rarer types I will add them to this guide. The list is not complete and I will consolidate it as I gather new information. If requested I can add the Korean version of the crystals (with an accurate translation), although it must be noted that they may not be the same for Western TERA.
Offensive Crystals
Violent Assault – Recover MP when hitting a Player (PvP)
– Increased Max MP
Brilliant – Recover MP every 5 Seconds (Tank / Healer / PvP)
Brutal – Increased % Damage to Knocked-Down Opponent (DD PvP)
Focused – Increased Critical Damage Multiplier to Enraged Monster (DD PvE)
Savage – Increased Crit Damage Multiplier when hitting Opponent’s Rear (DD PvE)
Forceful – Chance to receive Strength Buff if Crit Opponent’s Rear (DD PvE)
Swift – Increased Combat Movement Speed (Tank&Healer; PvE / PvP)
Furious – Increased % Damage when Below 50% HP (DD PvP)
Slaying – Increased Crit Damage Multiplier when Below 50% HP (PvP)
– Generate more % Aggro when hitting Monster (Tank PvE)[/center]
Defensive Crystals
Punishment – Recover MP when hit by a Player (PvP)
Fleetfoot – Increased out of combat Movement Speed (Healer)
Relentless – Increased Max HP (PvP)
Resolute – Decreased % Damage when Below 50% HP (PvP)
Vigorous – Recover HP every 5 Seconds (PvP)
how about a guide that actually tells you how to add and remove crystals?
thanks man?:] i hope u test more archers !
Very helpful guide.
Can you add the Korean version of the crystals
