There are 5 main combat roles most companions fall into. They are:

Healer
Melee DPS
Melee Tank
Range DPS
Range Tank

Note 1: All companions are listed in the order in which they are acquired.

Note 2: All classes receive a droid companion when they receive their starship. This droid is the same for each class in a specific faction. For the Empire Classes the droid is 2V- R8. For the Republic Classes the droid is C2 – N2. Both faction ship droids have limited healing and combat options and can be used as a combat companion. You can also use the ship’s droid to complete crew skill missions.
