If your team can’t defend a tower with 4, you’re probably going to regret splitting. If your team wanders around aimlessly while you’re pushing you could gain nothing or even lose out if you happen to die (they send more than two to gank you). But these things are out of your control though, and can’t be changed. However, it’s worth considering that if your team gets rekt 4v4 or even 4v5, there’s a good chance you being there wouldn’t tip the balance very much. Unless your skill level is way higher than the current division you’re playing.

I say, if you’re doing well then always split push. The worst case is your team will fight 4v4. If they lose that teamfight you can’t blame yourself (though they will blame you, but forget about that). Best case they send 2+ to gank you and/or your team wipes them leaving either you or your team free to take some objectives.

Only split push if you are sure you can 1v1 any player on their team or your escape is up. It does no good if you split and they just send their fed Freya to kill you and start pushing the lane against you. If you’re so fed you can 1v2 most of their team, split pushing is always a good idea. You’ll essentially turn all teamfights into a 4v3/4v2 if your team is smart.

Zilong works well because of his ult which is both an escape and has an ASPD buff, but it can be tricky if you burn ult taking a tower down and their team arrives to jump you while it’s on cooldown. He’s also a good 1v1’er. I personally use Hayabusa, mostly because he reminds me of Zed (my favorite LoL champ). He’s a good 1v1 champ. He has instant wave clear in his ult which is surprisingly useful. His escape is second in the game to Fanny imo… it’s a blink and slow in one. Moskov is a good splitter because of his escape. Fanny is good, but only in the hands of a good player…not very good 1v1 fighter but her escape can allow for pretty much free towers.

Nothing to be done here. You’re wasting more time by walking over to a fight that will probably be over by the time you get there anyway. Time you could have been pushing. Now it’s 1v4 and you will probably die defending the turret too.

Unless they are likely to push to your base, it’s still best to keep pushing here and punish them hard. Take at least two towers. Eventually they will send people to handle you.

I really don’t think there are many situations in which you definitely should not split push. Maybe if you’re feeding or you can’t even 1v1. I think the key to successful splitting is consistency and determination. Just stick to it. Don’t waste time running around the map trying to fight battles that are lost before you get there. Fights break out at random, in the jungle, in a random lane, you can’t be everywhere. This is even more complicated in this game because of the fact there are no wards. The purpose of splitting is to bring the fight to you. Now you know for sure where at least one enemy will be, straight to you. No matter what you’ll encounter situations where you ask yourself whether you should have split or not. Similarly, if you lose a teamfight you’ll sometimes ask yourself whether you should have been splitting instead. If you keep dying while splitting, you’re doing it wrong.

If your team loses 4v4 or even 4v5 it’s not your fault (even though they will blame you). They should not do a full engage when outnumbered and it’s not hard simply to defend a turret with four people. They don’t even have to engage the enemy team at all. You just sit there and clear the wave so the turret aggro’s any enemy who comes in range. If they can’t do that they’re hopeless anyway. If the enemy is so fed they can tank the turret, you’re probably not going to help by being there. Teamfights aren’t lost because you’re not around, they’re lost because your team doesn’t know how to defend/teamfight. Your presence doesn’t magically make them better players. I’ve split and had my team bitch at me when they get rekt, only to help in the next teamfight and still get rekt and die in the fight to boot. However, you can help them win by attracting at least one to you on a split.

The game is just strategy and learning it. Take a starting scenario. You go top and you outplay and take turret. Great. Keep pushing. You hold your ground or lose turret somehow….now 90% of the time whoever you were fighting top will go straight to mid and try to start team fighting to push your mid turret down. That’s fine. You might have the feeling you should also go mid now to “help your team”. Not so. What you do is rush top and take the free tower and keep pushing since it’s likely early and your base is well protected. You force them to stop the team fight and deal with you. Another thing you can do to improve your chances of winning greatly is learn how to handle a 1v2 lane situation with whatever champ you use. This helps your team immensely, because if you’re topside solo against two enemies, that means someone on the other team is facing two of yours. The chances are high that they will not be able to handle the 1v2 as well as you can (if you manage to at least stay alive). You’ll likely lose turret unless you’re very much better than the two you’re against, but this usually opens up the strategy in my previous paragraph.

I also think the best way to get better at splitting is to master your champ. Grind out games in matchup mode until you know them inside out. I guess that’s kind of a general thing though, to improve at any position. I have only 200 games with Hayabusa and 70% win rate and I still have a lot of improvement ahead of me.

There’s a lot of BS out there where pro players talk about “not blaming their teams” etc. The fact is that if your team sucks they will cause you to lose whether you split or not. What they mean by “not blaming your team” is actually to not use your bad team as an excuse to not improve yourself (I.E., i’m good, I just lost that game because of a bad team…no need for me to improve). All you can really do in this game is improve yourself so that your chances of winning increase despite a bad team.

You don’t really want to teamfight because your purpose is to draw the enemy away from teamfights. I’d say only teamfight if they’re pushing your inhibitor turret and ready to take your base. Yet this is not to say that you should not help your team at all. You’ll see situations where you are needed (some fool runs into an enemy in topside enemy jungle or something). Still, priority number one is to keep one lane highly pressured.
