I figured I would put together a guide of how to/whether you can dodge the characters specials. As we all know, you cannot dodge an L3 (Red) but some of the damage from a successful block can also be avoided against L1 & L2 – this really makes a difference when you are playing an opponent with a PI twice of yours where even the accumulated block damage can kill you. Here is a run-down of the specials and whether you can or cannot dodge them totally or partially. The dash numbers will vary where you are stood (duh) but are based on being within striking distance of the enemy when they pull them.

Abomination/Hulk

L1: Headbutt – Easily avoided, one of the most telegraphed moves, single dash back will avoid. Easily induced from the opponent. (Same as Drax)

L2: Thunderclap – Difficult to avoid, requires a double dash back and perfect timing, will still hit into a block from one dash back.

Black Bolt

L1: Sonic Beam – Very Difficult to avoid requires at least a double dash back due to low angle of attack. (Same as Vision)

L2: Corkscrew attack – Difficult to avoid but possible, requires a double dash back; one at start and another midway through attack.

Black Panther

L1: Slash, Kick, Kick – Easily avoided – single dash to begin then another midway through the attack, watch out for the final kick has a long reach.

L2: Slash, Slash, Uppercut – Very Easily avoided, often a single dash will avoid this completely.

Captain America

L1: Shield slam and Kick – Easily avoided, single dash back

L2: Shield punch and throw: Easy to avoid , single dash – block but shield will hit regardless of distance back. (50% dodged)

Captain Marvel

L1: Jump Beam – easily avoided – single dash back.

L2: High Kick – easily avoided – double dash back.

Colossus/Unstoppable Colossus

L1: Jump Kick: Easy to avoid. single dash, well telegraphed.

L2: Swinging fists: Easy to avoid, single dash to begin, another before the middle swings.

Cyclops

L1: Beam – Cannot avoid.

L2: Left, Right, Kick, Beam. – Can avoid first three hits with a single dash – block – Beam cannot be avoided. (75% dodged)

Dr Strange

L1: Magic Missile – swipes then launches projectile, single dash – block will avoid the swipe but missile will hit regardless (50% dodged)

L2: Faltinian Triplicate – three explosions right at your feet regardless of distance back. Block and hold on.

Drax

L1: Headbutt – Easily avoided, one of the most telegraphed moves. Single dash back will avoid. Easily induced from the opponent. (Same as Abom/Hulk)

L2: Swinging swords: Easy to avoid, single dash to begin, another before the middle swings. (Similar to the Colossi)

Electro

L1: Lighning – Cannot avoid

L2: Floor electrification – Cannot avoid

Gamora

L1: Sword swing – Easy to avoid, single dash back, well telegraphed.

L2: Double sword swing – Easy to avoid, double dash back

Hawkeye

L1: Bow swing then EMP arrow: single dash – block will avoid the blow, arrow will hit regardless of distance back. (50% dodged)

L2: Double bow swing then explosive arrow: single dash – block will avoid both blows, arrow will hit regardless of distance back. (66% dodged)

Iron Fist

L1: Punch, Kick, Kick – Easily avoided – single dash to begin then another midway through the attack, watch out for the final kick has a long reach. (Same as Black Panther)

L2: Kick, Kick Punch – Easily avoided – well telegraphed – single dash to begin then another midway through (Same as Punisher/ Winter Soldier)

Iron Man/Superior Iron Man

L1: Unibeam – Cannot avoid.

L2: Jump then Unibeam – Cannot avoid. (On occasion the opponent will set this off from the other side of the level and miss, but in practicality if they pull this when you are in front of them you cannot get far enough back)

Juggernaut

L1: Ground Punch – double dash back – this will still hit a block from one dash back (Similar to Rhino)

L2: Jump, Ram, Slam – single dash back then another before the charge forwards.

Punisher/Winter Soldier

L1: Left Right Double shot – single/double – block will avoid one/two of the punches but the shots will hit regardless of distance (50% dodged)

L2: Kick Kick Punch – Easily avoided – well telegraphed – single dash to begin then another midway through (Same as Iron Fist) watch the initial kick as often they will drag forwards quite far to initiate the kick.

Rhino

L1: Ground Slam – double dash back – this will still hit a block from one dash back (Similar to Juggernaut)

L2: Left Right Swing Smash – single dash to begin then another midway through.

Ronan/ Thor

L1: Hammer up then lightning forward – incredibly short ranged single dash will dodge however and given the amount of advertising this move does, double dash for safety.

L2: Hammer slam and throw/beam – single dash – block will avoid the blow, hammer/beam will hit regardless of distance back. (50% dodged)

Scarlet Witch

L1: Hex bolt – Cannot avoid.

L2: Hex bolt – Cannot avoid.

Spiderman

L1: Web, Web, Left, Right, Uppercut: one of the nastiest L1s in the game: Cannot avoid any of the five hits as Spidey will rush forward after the projectiles.

L2: Web swing. Often considered unavoidable. However a double/triple dash will avoid this special, get as far as possible as quick as possible.

Star Lord

L1: Rocket boots: double dash back (you will still be dashing midway through his attack – it’s very quick)

L2: Smash and shoot: single dash – block will avoid the swing, but laser will hit regardless (50% dodged)

Storm

L1: Lightning bolt – Easily avoided – as she jumps in the air double dash back (you have plenty of time, similar to Ronan/Thor)

L2: Lightning bolt – Cannot avoid.

Vision

L1: Successful Block inflicts no damage.

L2: Successful Block inflicts no damage.

Wolverine

L1: Double Claw Swipe – Easily avoided – well telegraphed single/double dash back for safety

L2: Left Right Uppercut – Easily avoided – single dash then another midway through attack

This is by no means a complete list as I don’t really have enough experience with some of the characters (Electro, Rocket, Magik) to gauge whether or not you can avoid some/all of their specials but I hope this helps at least a few people tell whether just to put the guard up and wait it out or dodge then block against different enemies.
