8Realms Beginner’s Guide

8Realms Beginner’s Guide by Advisor

The moment you jump into 8Realms, you’ll want to open up the tasks list. Tasks are very benifitial because not only do they give you a set of intructions on how to improve your empire, but they also give you some nice rewards for completeing them!

The very first task is “Build your first Farm”. However, in adition to the farm, we will also want to provide ourselfs with some other resources.

Start out by building one of each:
• Farm (farmland)
• Logging Camp (forest)
• Quarry (hills)

When you’ve got one of each, continue to build on the other available resource tiles until you have a total of 4 farms, 3 logging camps, and 3 quarries.

What’s that? – You’ve completed a task! Congratulations on completing your first task. Tasks are like a list of instructions to carry out. As your empire progresses, you’ll be faced with some more challenging tasks, however, keep in mind that they’re only there to motivate you and don’t always need to be completed. Not only do tasks help you get to where you need to be, but they also provide you with some sweet rewards after completing them. Click the task icon in the upper left corner of your screen to collect your rewards. Continue to click this icon until you have claimed all of the available rewards so far.

You now have got a decent amount of resouces coming in and it’s time to expand your village centre. The village centre plays a key role in the rest of your settlement. As your village centre is upgraded, you will have the ability to upgrade your resource tiles and building structures. In addition, the village centre provides you with culture, which is needed to move on to the next age. Go ahead and upgrade your village centre to level 2; this will take roughly 5 minutes.

While your village centre is upgrading to level 2, click on one of the open tiles surrounding the village centre. The construction screen will pop up showing you some of the structures that are available to you. Select the library and click build. The library allows you to conduct research and also provides you with research points to help increase the speed of research.

When your library has finished being built, you’ll want to conduct some research. Researching in your library opens a gate to many new opportunities. For starters, it allows you to unlock and build new constuction buildings, faster construction times, upgraded perks for your troops and boosts to some of your resources. To start up a research, click on the library and select “Start New Research”. I highly reccommend starting out with the research “Storehouse”. Select this from the research panel and then click “Start Research”. This will take roughly 3 minutes.

After the Storehouse has been researched, you’ll want to build it on your lands. Storehouses protect resources from outside attacks and increase your population, thus increasing your gold production. Select an open tile and build a Storehouse. Wait until the storehouse has completed constructing to move on in this guide.

At this point in time, you may have noticed that you are starting to become low on resources. Fortunately, we’ve completed a decent amount of tasks so far and you are ready to collect your rewards! Click on the tasks button and then claim the rewards presented. Continue doing this until you have collected all of the rewards from the tasks possible so far.

After you have collected all of your rewards from the tasks, upgrade a single farm, logging camp, and quarry to level 2.

Continue upgrading the rest of your farms, logging camps, and quarries to level 2 until you can no longer do so. If you find that you don’t have enough resources to upgrade all of these, you most likely missed something in the guide. If that is the case, it’s not a big deal. Simply wait until you have enough resources and then upgrade them at a top priority.

Following this, you’ll then want to upgrade your library to level 2. Increasing the level of your library offers more research points which speed up research times as described above. Additionally, it allows you to research technologies that require a higher level to research. Go ahead and upgrade your library to level 2.

While your library is upgrading, you’ll want to start up on a new research project. However, you may notice that you’re a bit low on gold. Fear not, humble ones! There’s a simple task we can complete for a nice sum of gold. To do this task, open up your task list and locate the task named “Fly your flag”. When you have located this task, click “Suggested Action” in the bottom right hand corner and a different screen will come up asking you to select a flag. Before you do select a flag, keep in mind that this unique flag is how you will be known and that it will represent your empire. After choosing a flag, click the task button to claim your reward of 50 gold.

You should now have enough gold to start a new research. I suggest that you research “Agriculture” at this time because it improves your resources gained from farming and we’re currently in need of more resources. This will take 2 hours to research. Since the research time on Agriculture is a bit high and we don’t have much resources to progress any further, make sure that all of your farms, logging camps, and quarries are at level 2. If everything is looking good, feel free to log out and take a short break for about 2 hours.

When you return from your break, your research of agriculture should be complete and your library should now be level 2.

You will now want to construct another storehouse. Keep in mind that this storehouse is only temporary and it will need to be destroyed in the next age so don’t bother upgrading it. When the storehouse is complete, open your task manager to collect any and all rewards.

You will need the following resources in order to move on in this guide:
• 750 Food
• 700 Wood
• 700 Stone
• 100 Gold

You now have enough resources to successfully upgrade your village centre to level 3. Village centre 3 gives access to higher level structures along with a higher rate in which culture comes in. Go ahead and upgrade your village centre to level 3; this will take roughly 4 hours.

While your village centre is upgrading, you’ll want to start up a new research. I highly suggest that you research “Craftmanship”. This research decreases the time it takes to build/upgrade a building. This will take a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes with a level 2 library so feel free to log out once more to take a break until this time has passed.

When you return from your break, your research of craftmanship should be complete. You’ll now want to start up another research as you continue to wait for your village centre to upgrade. I suggest at this time that you research “Durable Axes”. This will increase your wood production similary to how agriculture increased your food production. This research will take a total of 1 hour to complete with a level 2 library so feel free to take a break until this time has passed.

Upon completion of durable axes, you may notice that there’s still some time remaining until your village centre upgrade is complete. That being said, you’ll want to start up yet another research as you wait for time to pass. I suggest that you research “Durable Picks”. Feel free to log out and take a break for about 1 hour until it has finished researching.

You will need the following in order to move on in this guide:
• Village Centre 3

Once you have the village centre upgraded to level 3, you’ll be able to claim the reward for upgrading it. Click the task icon and collect your well earned rewards!

You
should now have a significant amount of resources at your disposal. I highly recommend upgrading your surrounding resources. Go ahead and upgrade all of your farms, forest camps, and quaries to level 3.

When you have finished upgrading these, collect any and all rewards from the tasks that you have completed. There is a chance that these rewards will not register right away so check back every minute or so until you collect all of the rewards. There should be a total of 3 rewards granting 250 food, stone, and wood in total.

After claiming your rewards for upgrading your resources, you’ll want to begin on a new research project. I suggest researching “Improved Irrigation”. This will increase food production in addition to the affects of agriculture. This will take 3 hours.

While you are researching improved irrigation, you’ll also want to upgrade your library to level 3. A level 3 library will improve the speed of all researches and unlock new research abilities. Upgrade your library to level 3; this will take roughly 2 hours.

While your research is conducting and your library is upgrading, you’ll want to build yourself a barracks. Select an open tile surrounding your village centre and build a barracks. When the barracks is done being constructed, upgrade it to level 2. There is a possibility that you will not have enough wood to upgrade the barracks to level 2. If this is the case, simply wait a little while until enough resources come in. Constructing a level 2 barracks will take roughly 2 hours.

Since there’s currently not anything we can do that will be benefitial to us at this point, feel free to log off and take a break for about 2 hours.

When you return from your break, you should find that your library and barracks have successfully been upgraded. You’ll now want to construct a parade ground. Select an open tile surrounding your village centre, then select the parade ground and build away.

Hopefully by now your research of improved irrigation is finished, or just about finished. You’ll need to wait until it is finished in order to move on in this guide.

Now that you have improved irrigation researched, you’ll want to start up another research project. we still have a couple of researches left to complete from earlier on, so we’ll do them now. Open up your library and navigate to the research “Lookout Post” then start it. When the lookout post has completed being researched, navigate to the research “Hardened Spears” and start researching it. In total, it should take about 5 minutes to research both of these.

Upon completion of these researches, you’ll want to build the lookout post in your settlement. Select an open tile surrounding your village centre and build a lookout post.

You will now want to build up some army power to protect yourself from barbarians. To manage your troops, open up your barracks and click on “Manage Troops”. From here, select “Train Units” in the spearmen troop category. You will then be asked how many you wish to train, select 10 units and then click “Start Training”. When the troops are done training, the barbarians will plan to attack your settlement in about 1 hours time. With 10 spearman units, you should be able to wipe them clean without a problem!

Open the task manager to collect any rewards that may have been presented to you.

You will need the following resources in order to move on in this guide:
• 200 Gold

You’re nearing the end of the Ancient Age, however, you still have a few tasks left to complete. It’s time for you to make a decision on how you wish your empire to grow. Click on the culture icon in the top middle of your screen (the big 8). A new page will come up showing you 7 different wonders. After each realm is completed, you’re able to build a wonder. All wonders have specific requirements that must be fufilled before you’re able to build them. You’ll want to select a wonder that interests you and then work on fufiling the requirements so you can build it. Each wonder has its ups and downs, so be sure to choose carefully!

When you have a wonder in mind, you’ll want to complete the corresponding requirements. You have 3 researches to choose from:
• Philosophy
• Religion
• Sport

Hopefully by now you’ve chosen the path that you wish to take. For the sake of this guide, I’ve chosen to build the “Colosseum” wonder; please feel free to choose differently. Since I have chosen this wonder, I will need to research “Sport”. The research that you need to conduct will most likely differ from mine if you have choosen a different wonder. Select and start whatever research is required for the wonder you chose. All of the researches will take 2 hours to complete, so feel free to log off and take a break while you wait for it to finish.

When you return from your break, your research should be complete and you should find that your culture has reached 100%. You can now build yourself a wonder! To build a wonder, click on the culture icon and then select the wonder you initially chose to go with. If all went right, you should meet the requirements to build this wonder. Click the “Build Wonder” button and a new page should come up. This page allows you to place the wonder in a location of your choosing. Select a location and click build.

While your wonder is building, you’ll want to collect any rewards from completed tasks so you can finish building up your settlement before the new age starts. You’ll also want to finish up the remaining two researches in your library.

After you have collected your task rewards, research one of the two remaining researches (Philosophy, Religion, or Sport). While you are researching, you’ll want to upgrade a few buildings around your settlement. I suggest that you upgrade your barracks to level 3 and your storehouse to level 2. It will take roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes for these buildings to finish upgrading, so feel free to log out for that time and take a break.

Upon returning, your buildings should have completed upgrading. You will now want to upgrade your parade ground to level 2, and then your storehouse to level 3. When your second to last research has finished, research the final research available in the Ancient Age. This will take roughly 2 hours to complete; feel free to sign out and take a break while this time passes.

Congratulations, your wonder should now be complete! It has finally come down to the last straw and you’re ready to move onto the next age. Click the culture icon to move on into the next realm and journey on as you expand your small village into a gratified empire. See you on the other side; best of luck!
